Grand Velas Spa received a prestigious award for Luxury (Five-Star) Hotel Spa Design at the 2008 Travel Weekly Magellan Awards.

Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico - Grand Velas Spa, the crown jewel of Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, just 15 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, received a prestigious award for Luxury (Five-Star) Hotel Spa Design at the 2008 Travel Weekly Magellan Awards. The awards honor the "best in travel" and "recognize those in the forefront of the travel industry," said Arnie Weissmann, editor in chief of Travel Weekly.

The 16,500 sq. ft. Grand Velas Spa is a member of Leading Spas of the World and features 20 treatment rooms, a high-performance gym and exercise room, a spa boutique, and a beauty salon. The spa's design includes a palapa-style entrance, furniture from Bali and a large marbled wall with falling water. More than 80 treatments are grouped into 12 collections, including the new Family Spa Collection that debuted last spring.

The 2008 Travel Weekly Magellan Awards were determined by a panel of five distinguished travel professionals: Bob Dickinson, former President and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines; Patricia Scultz, author of "1,000 Places to See Before You Die"; Bill Fischer, President of Fischer Travel Enterprises; Lalia Rach, Associate dean at the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management School of Continuing Studies at New York University; and Peter Greenberg, Travel Editor of NBC's Today Show.

"We are very proud to receive this award from one of the top travel trade publications in the U.S.," said Oscar Cruces, managing director of Grand Velas Resort. "As the only spa in Mexico to receive an award for design, Grand Velas Spa looks forward to continue innovation in all aspects of wellness."

In Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and a recipient of the AAA Five-Diamond Award. Located on Banderas Bay, Grand Velas features 267 ocean-view suites, ultra spacious Spa Suites and multi-bedroom Imperial Suites. Five restaurants, three of which are gourmet, feature stylish decor and a la carte choices for French, Italian or Mexican cuisine. The family-friendly resort also offers tiered three-temperature infinity pools with iPod minis, tennis court, 25,321 total sq feet of meeting space, special entertainment for adults and kids and the Grand Kids' Club.
