Puerto Vallarta - After an amazing inaugural tournament in 2006 and a record-setting event in 2007, Hook the Cure returns to Puerto Vallarta from October 23-26 for an even better IGFA qualifier fishing tournament to benefit cystic fibrosis research and patient care.

Hook the Cure is not your every day catch-and-release fishing tournament. Not only do participants enjoy one of the greatest fishing locations in the world but also first-class all-inclusive accommodations, gourmet meals, and nightly social events, all while helping a worthy cause.

"The support of the local Puerto Vallarta community has been outstanding," says Bob Huston, Chairman, 2008 Hook the Cure. "Last year's event reeled in a whopping $345,000 USD net which helps us make significant progress in assisting people with this country's leading genetic killer of young people."

Co-chairman Jeff Jennison agrees: "It's heartening to see so many people come out and support the Foundation. Every bit of help brings us closer to a cure... and events like Hook the Cure in Puerto Vallarta bring us all closer to finding the cure."

About 40,000 children and adults have cystic fibrosis, a disease that affects the lungs and digestive system, often causing life-threatening lung infections and can stop the body from breaking down and absorbing food. Research has come a long way in increasing the life expectancy of CF patients. In the 1950s, a child diagnosed with the disease would likely die before finishing elementary school. Today, many people can live full lives into their 30s and 40s, and beyond.

Puerto Vallarta's blue skies and clear water create a paradise for the I.G.F.A-sanctioned fishing tournament, part of the Redbone Tournament Series. Adrenaline will rush as novices and seasoned anglers alike battle for trophy-sized marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi, tuna and many other species.

In 2007, Bob and Joe Lombardo from Orange County, California claimed the overall top honors while Bob Zieman and Dana Ruf landed the biggest dorado at 29.5 pounds. Libby Pelican and Howard Bloxom captured the kudos in the released billfish division. 19 sailfish were released during the two-day event.

Both the tournament and local boats were coordinated through Charter Dreams in Puerto Vallarta, the only charter company in Puerto Vallarta recommended by Marlin Magazine and World Outdoor News. Charter Dreams will, once again, coordinate the 2008 outing.

Baseball royalty Wade Boggs, Los Angeles radio personality Shawn Parr and other personalities will also join in on the fun and serve as master of ceremonies.

For those who prefer to have their fun on dry land, Vista Vallarta will provide its signature golf courses by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf, both featuring a challenging game and gorgeous views of Puerto Vallarta's tropical scenery, for Hook the Cure hackers.

Hook the Cure guests will get a chance to set their hooks into the silent and live auction instead of prize-winning fish. Some of the great items up for bid are a Toshiba 42" donated by Toshiba and IOTEC, American Airlines Celebrity Ski Package in Vail, Colorado, a New York Hilton package with a Broadway Show, Tavern on the Green and transportation on American Airlines, Business Class airfare on American Airlines with hotel, a private villa in Punta De Mita donated by Paul and Debbie Motenko & Jerry and Cheri Hennessy, a Holland America cruise and more!

The rest of the weekend is pure indulgence at the Villa Premiere Hotel and Spa. If anyone still has a care in the world it will be melted away at the full service spa with a beauty salon, steam rooms, saunas, Jacuzzi and fitness rooms.

Others will find fun and relaxation off the resort, enjoying all Puerto Vallarta has to offer. The friendly and clean city boasts cultural events and exhibits, shopping, exciting jungle day trips, lively nightclubs and restaurants, and of course, many romantic hideaways.
