The rich fishing grounds of Banderas Bay and the Mexican Pacific, home to an abundance of Sailfish, Blue and Black Marlin, Dorado and Giant Yellowfin Tuna, have made Puerto Vallarta a household word among big-game anglers - and the place to go in Mexico for serious bill fishing.

As one of the most prestigious national and international sportfishing tournaments on the West Coast of Mexico, the Torneo Internacional Puerto Vallarta de Pez Vela y Marlin has been bringing together the most passionate group of fishermen for three exciting days of fishing in some of Mexico's finest waters for more than 50 years.

This year, the International Sailfish and Marlin Tournament celebrates its 53rd year. Scheduled to take place in Puerto Vallarta from Nov 12th-15th, this popular annual event promises to be even bigger and better than ever - with more than $300,000 USD in cash and prizes to be awarded.

The objective of this tournament is to promote sport fishing, the organization of tournaments and sportsmanship while creating a sense of preservation for the abundant species that reside in the warm blue waters of Puerto Vallarta.

Year after year, the International Sail Fish and Marlin Tournament has seen an increase in the number of participants from various countries and states within Mexico. This year, competitors from Mexican cities Aguascalientes, Guadalajara, Monterey, Tampico and Léon, the United States and Canada are expected.

There are some changes this year, such as fishing in teams and the option to catch and release sailfish in order to preserve the species and allow for future practice of this sport.

Don't miss the 53rd Annual Puerto Vallarta International Sailfish and Marlin Tournament! See the schedule of events below, or visit the Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club website at FishVallarta.com for tournament registration and information.
