U.S. President Elect Hails Mexico’s Work in Fight against Drug-Trafficking

Mexico City - President-elect Obama hailed Mexico's work in the struggle against drug trafficking and organized crime. He said that he was aware of the difficulty involved and offered his government’s determined support.

President-elect Obama offered the Mexican president his sincerest condolences for the death of Interior Secretary Juan Camilo Mouriño Terrazo and other top government officials who lost their lives in the plane crash on Tuesday. He asked the President to send his condolences to their relatives.

During the conversation, President Calderón said that the elections President-elect Obama won have inspired a new generation to take an active part in public affairs and to become involved in the U.S. political process. As members of the same generation, President Calderón invited the President-elect to work together to cope with global problems and strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of all Mexicans and Americans.

President Felipe Calderón highlighted the fact that both administrations have four years of intense work ahead of them.

Lastly, the Mexican President expressed interest in meeting in the near future and invited President- Elect Obama to pay a visit to Mexico.
