Mexico City - Mexican President Felipe Calderón met this week with the Association of Mexican Banks on the occasion of their 80th Anniversary.

The President stressed the timely actions that have been undertaken to cope with the world economic crisis and emphasized the strength of Mexican banks, resulting from a series of reforms regarding regulation and supervision, implemented over the past decade.

The President highlighted his government’s commitment to the Bank, which it regards as one of the main engines for reinforcing and shoring up the country's economic activity. In this respect, he mentioned the ambitious financing and guarantees program operated by the Development Bank, as well as the measures oriented towards guaranteeing the liquidity by the Finance Secretariat and Banco de México, which have improved the financing conditions of financial markets and the banking system itself.

Lastly, the President congratulated the Association of Mexican Banks on their anniversary and urged members to continue playing a key role in national development.
