RISE Kids Receive the Magic of Navidad
email this pageprint this pageemail usChris Amo - Refugio-Infantil.org

A couple of "angels" from Juegos Rainbow in Leon, Guanajuato recently donated their time and the equipment needed to repair the much loved and well-used playground at R.I.S.E.
It seems that the spirit of Christmas has arrived early for the 58 wonderful children currently living at Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza (R.I.S.E.), a children's shelter here in Puerto Vallarta.

A couple of "angels" led by Jose Manuel Plascencia from Juegos Rainbow / Rainbow Play Systems, Inc. in Leon Guanajuato, responded in a very generous way to a plea made by Refugio administrator Sol Martinez Maciel asking for repairs and replacement parts for their much loved and well-used playground.

Workers from the company spent one very long day replacing boards, tightening bolts, installing new swings, repainting the entire structure, etc. - all FREE of charge. Cheers and squeals of delight filled the air as the children viewed this "magic" from the blessing of those who give to others in need.

For those of you who are new to Vallarta or unfamiliar with this wonderful place, Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza is a non-profit full care center which currently supports the physical, psychological, and educational needs of children ranging in age from 1 year to 15 years.

While some of the children are placed at R.I.S.E. voluntarily by their families who are struggling and are not able to care for their children, many arrive through DIF (government social services agency) to avoid further dangerous, abusive, and neglectful situations. Monthly operating expenses are of immediate concern at R.I.S.E., as it operates almost entirely on donations.

For more specific information about R.I.S.E. please view the website at Refugio-Infantil.org. Visits to R.I.S.E. between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm Monday through Friday, or 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays, can be arranged by calling Sol Martinez Maciel, the marvelous, energetic administrator at R.I.S.E. at (322) 222-7857 or by emailing her at elsoldevallarta(at)hotmail.com.

Monetary and material donations are always welcome and are tax deductible in the U.S. through Children's Shelter of Hope Foundation and in Canada through Canadian Children's Shelter of Hope Foundation.

The R.I.S.E. for Hope Fundraising Event - A Mexican Fiesta - will be held on February 7, 2009 from 5 to 9 at the American School in Marina Vallarta. Tickets will be on sale very soon.

The Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza is a non-profit shelter for babies and children under the age of 14. Some of these children are orphans but most come from unbearable situations having been abused, neglected, or simply abandoned. R.I.S.E. is a Mexican non-profit charitable organization, which accepts donations through a number of charitable organizations. More information about tax deductible donations can be found at their website: Refugio-Infantil.org.
