President Felipe Calderón declared that as long as Mexicans are united, they will be able to solve the problems facing Mexico, such as the lack of safety on the streets and the economic downturn being faced by the international community.

“We do have serious problems, some of which began a long time ago, such as public security and others that began abroad, such as the economic downturn we are currently experiencing. But although it will be hard and take time to solve them, rest assured that as long as we are united, Mexicans will be able to solve their problems and make progress with everyone’s support,” he declared.

He recalled that since the start of his administration, he told Mexicans what the new US president Barack Obama said to Americans yesterday, that it will be very difficult and take a long time to fix things, and that they could not be put right overnight but that there was a solution.

On tour in the state of Mexico, during the Inauguration of the Chalco 1 Junction, the President stressed that this work, measuring nearly 6 kilometers, involved a 120 million pesos investment and is part of the Mexico-Cuautla highway project.

President Calderón remarked that this year, $22 billion pesos will be assigned to infrastructure this year to build and modernize roads. Over a billion pesos will be allocated to works such as the Toluca-Palmillas, Toluca-Naucalpan and Texcoco-Calpulalpan highways. Another $9 billion pesos will be assigned for conservation and maintenance.

The President declared that the aim is to make an enormous effort to make Mexico more competitive.

“With this work, which is modest in relation to what we need yet important for those of us living here, Federal Government which, as a result of Mexicans' decision, I am honored to lead, wants to tell the inhabitants of Chalco, Valle del Chalco and the east of Mexico that we are with you, we will not forget you and that we will continue working hard for the benefit of the residents of Mexico State in the east of the state," he added.
