February is almost over and how many of us have kept up with our New Year's Resolutions? I can't even remember what resolution I made. Anyway, there are healthy beauty tips which you can begin TODAY that will help you feel better about your hair year 'round.

Beautiful, shining hair is a valuable asset. Hair can also be a versatile fashion accessory, to be colored, curled, dressed up, or smoothed down - all in a matter of minutes. However, here in Puerto Vallarta, the hard water, sun and salt, combined with the effects of a poor diet, pollution and air-conditioning, can mean that your hair becomes the bane of your life rather than your crowning glory.

A daily hair care routine and prompt treatment when problems arise are therefore of vital importance in maintaining the natural beauty of healthy hair. Here are some tips that will restore that "shine" and luster back into you're hair. The other option is come and see me at Salon Diva's and I'll make it happen for you.

Beauty Tips

1. To help prevent split ends, apply a leave-in conditioner or styling lotion to the hair (mid-shaft to ends.) This will help in protecting and sealing the hair after you have blow-dried.

2. Preserve shine if you're active and shower twice a day, don't shampoo the second time, just condition the ends.

3. If you swim everyday, or even a couple of times a week, your hair should be classified as "chemically damaged" ... more so if you have color-treated hair because it's being exposed to the high levels of chlorine in the pool. Be sure to remove the chlorine from the hair after swimming with a Anti-Chlorine moisturizing shampoo.

4. Deep condition once every two weeks. These treatments penetrate the hair shaft and strengthen strands. Using heat (from a blow-dryer) can intensify deep conditioning, as the heat causes the cuticle to open and the ingredients to penetrate.

5. Don't skimp on haircuts - have one at least every 6-8 weeks. This will keep the hair from splitting and maintain shine and lustre.

6. Using moisturizing shampoos and conditioners specially designed for your hair type/texture can help protect your hair and maintain your hair color longer.

7. Make sure the stylist understands the four important aspects of a haircut: density, texture, type, and facial shape. For instance, if you have thick, coarse hair, then you would not want a full perm or if you have a full, round face, you want your hair to be pulled away from the face to make it look thinner. Finally, a good haircut should last six weeks, looking great every day.

8. Another tip for healthy hair is that using too much product will cause your hair to appear greasy and weighted down. Especially if you're hair is fine. You also want to be careful when mixing and matching products. Instead of applying a leave-in conditioner, styling mousse, gel, and then hair spray, simply shampoo and condition your hair and then use one product. Additionally, it would be best to use the same brands in that they are designed to work together for the best results.

9. This may sound like a "old wives tale" but it's true and it really works... Give your hair a good brushing before bed. This should be done by bending forward from the waist, head down, brushing from the back to front. Brush at least fifty to one hundred strokes. This will help remove dirt, pollutants and damaging particles from the hair in addition to stimulate circulation, which will increase natural oils for added sheen and oxygen to the hair and scalp.

10. Have you been thinking about changing your hair color? what a great time to start something new. If you need some hair advice? Come and see us at Salon Diva's and we'll make it happen for you.
