Mexico City - Two workers were killed and two others hurt Friday in the collapse of a building under construction in the central Mexican city of Zacatecas, authorities said.

Emergency services personnel told Efe that efforts were under way to clear the rubble and rescue workers believed to have been trapped in the accident.

The secretary of the Zacatecas state government, Carlos Pinto Nuñez, said officials were working to identify the owner of the three-story structure.

The Zacatecas branch of the Mexican Chamber of Industry and Construction issued a statement expressing regret about the loss of life in the accident and pledging to support authorities' efforts to clear the rubble.
