A hungry and generous crowd raised $15,000 pesos for the Puerto Vallarta Red Cross at the 3rd Annual Chili and Pasta Cook Off at La Huerta Grill on February 14th. (Video Diva Productions)
The crowd couldn't enough of the good eats. With over 15 choices of pasta and chili the decision for the best took on a competitive edge.

"We had sweet but spicy chili. I liked the hot and spicy a little bit better," says Penny Riehm, Sample Queen, "We had a great time, enjoyed our great friends in Mexico."

The third annual Chili and Pasta cook off took place at La Huerta Grill in Paso Ancho on February 14, 2009. Everyone's taste buds were on alert.

"We sampled several different types of chilis and several different types of pastas and one of my jobs was to make a judgment on what was possibly the best and which was probably not the best," says John Vanderende, Cook Off Judge. "There were three judges and we couldn't always agree because some of the chilis were spicy, and that's not my thing, and some of the pastas were a little different, to say the least."

Over 135 spooned up the area's best concoctions and just under $15,000 pesos were raised for the Puerto Vallarta Red Cross. The money is marked for ambulance improvements.

"We organized this event cause we were impressed with the all the good things about the Red Cross and what they do for everybody," says Doug Tiedeman, the Event Organizer, My wife and I just love putting this event together. I'm very happy with the crowd turn out, everyone is eating away, the competition is really good, everybody is having a blast, and we're getting lots of compliments."

Most of the entries were slurped up by the hungry and generous crowd. Organizers hope next year's event will draw even more people.
