March 18, 2009 - To kick-off a week of great sail racing and fun events, participants in the 17th Annual Banderas Bay Regatta, gathered last night at the Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa Amphitheater for this year's welcome reception.

Those in attendance were treated to lively Mariachi music and a wonderful display of traditional Mexican folk dances performed by the internationally famous Folklorico Mexcaltitan dance troupe.

This troupe has some very talented dancers who donned some pretty incredible regional costumes and put on a show that was enjoyed by all. This certainly set the stage for a week of both fun and fantastic sailing.

Today's activities involve assigning the over 40 boats signed up for the upcoming racing into 5 classes based on handicap ratings. In the afternoon a starting line will be set up off of the Nuevo Vallarta beachfront giving the crews a chance to practice their race starts and hone their skills for the 3 days of racing that starts at 1:30 pm tomorrow, March 19.

For those not participating in the race but planning to watch the race from a boat please respect the racers and follow any instructions given to you by the race committee members who will be monitoring the course.
