Day 1 of actual racing started with the traditional boat parade. A large group of onlookers and well wishers gathered at the Nuevo Vallarta Entrance Channel to watch as each boat was recognized by M.C. Jerry Siggins. Jerry introduced the captain and crew of each boat and gave a short history of the vessel.

Most of the boats motored out of the entrance channel but several of the smaller and more nimble vessels sailed out the very narrow channel giving those who were in attendance a good example of some pretty spectacular tacking skills.

The course was set, the committee boat anchored in place at the start / finish line and the race was started on time. Lack of wind was definitely not a problem yesterday blowing upwards of 15 to 20 knots at times. The finish leg of the race was reportedly a bit lumpy due to the wind and waves.

There were apparently a few problems a indicated by number of sails dropped off in front of the Vallarta Yacht Club for repair but by in large the skippers and their crew were pretty pleased with the racing conditions.

Day 1 was a great success and was fun for all although a number of, "I forgot how old I am's" were heard after the race.

Today's race starts at 1:00 pm with two courses set up, one for the faster boats (Classes A - D), and a shorter course for the boats in Class E. The long course is slightly over 23 miles in length which will be a good test of crew skills and stamina.
