Official Residence - Good morning everyone, thank you for coming at such short notice.

We have gathered you here today to inform you that on April 16 and 17, US President Barack Obama will pay an Official Visit to Mexico.

This visit stresses the high priority both leaders place on strengthening bilateral relations on the basis of a frank, respectful dialogue on the set of issues comprising the broad common agenda.

This second meeting in 2009 between the Presidents of Mexico and the United States will lend continuity to the dialogue established during their meeting on 12 January in Washington D.C. at which they agreed to promote a strategic partnership between the two countries.

Presidents Calderón and Obama will deal with bilateral cooperation in competitiveness and economic development, security, environment, migration and social well-being.

They will also discuss various issues on the hemispheric and global agenda of interest for both nations, particularly in view of the active participation of both countries at various regional and global forums. These include the Americas Summit, the G-8 Dialogue, G-5 and the APEC Leaders’ Summit.
