Tijuana B.C. - During the Inauguration of the Expansion of the Kyocera Mexicana Company, President Felipe Calderón urged all orders of government to work together to combat organized crime.

“We are experiencing a decisive moment in this struggle and we must all do it together. I know that the Mayor and the Governor cannot do it alone, which is why we are here. But it should also be quite clear that this is not a task of Federal Government alone, which cannot and should not do this alone. The collaboration of all orders of government is required to combat this scourge,” he declared.

Accompanied by State Governor José Guadalupe Osuna Millán, and Secretaries of the Economy, Gerardo Ruiz Mateos and Public Education, Josefina Vázquez Mota, the President expressed his faith in the spirit of Mexicans, which shows that when governments made a commitment and combine efforts to do their share, it is possible to make great progress where security is concerned.

During his second day of activities in Baja California, the President declared that in this international economic juncture, his government has created facilities for firms so that they can invest in Mexico and at the same time, generate and protect Mexicans' employment.

In the course of the event, the President reported that Kyocera will make an initial investment of $33 million dollars and create 600 direct and 2000 indirect jobs. It will also increase the production of solar panels from 175,000 to 750,000 a year.

The President declared that in order to deal with the effects of the world crisis, Federal Government has implemented several actions to protect the country's economy, so that when conditions improve, Mexico will be prepared to be more competitive.

He said that the measures adopted include the structural reforms approved, such as those involving the tax and pension systems. Government has also increased investment in infrastructure, which in 2009 will total $600 billion pesos, not only to create jobs but also to provide a suitable environment to encourage more firms to allocate resources to Mexico.

“I urge Mexicans to start working, to seek alternatives and to cope with problems and solve them, whether they involve security or economic issues," declared the President.

Ensenada, Baja California.- During the handing over of the premises of the School of Enology and Gastronomy in Ensenada, Baja California, President Felipe Calderón declared that it is only be working together that progress will be made in the fight against organized crime.

“I know that by working together, we are persevering and advancing towards stopping the threat of organized crime. I think that Baja California is proof that when the three orders of government work together, it is possible to achieve progress and construct the bases of development," he said.

The President said that the various levels of government are determined to collaborate in the country's problems and added that Mexicans demand united, jointly responsible work from their leaders.

Accompanied by State Governor Guadalupe Osuna Millán and Secretary of Public Education, Josefina Vázquez Mota, President Felipe Calderón declared that education is crucial to the development of the country and its inhabitants.

“True sustainable human development is impossible without education,” said the President.

He said that his government has a definite commitment to education in Mexico, particularly to Higher Education. This is borne out by the fact that in 2009, nearly 80 billion pesos will be designed to this sphere, a 30% increase since the start of the current administration.

He reported that this investment will promote the creation of 45 new higher education institutions and it is hoped that by the next school year, this figure will increase by another 32.

“Halfway through this administration we will have created at least 77 new public universities or higher education centers," he added.

President Calderón declared that university education lags furthest behind. Federal Government's goal is therefore to increase university age coverage by 30% and in 2009, an increase of 28% has been achieved.

As for grants, he declared that during this school year, 40,000 young people will be supported, making a total of 310,000 university student throughout the country who are now able to continue their studies.

“Promoting education and promoting public education, in addition to promoting equality, contributes to the development of Mexico. And Mexico needs young people not only to have higher education but it must also adapt to the economic potential of the country's different regions, and that is precisely what the School of Enology and Gastronomy, whose premises we have inaugurated today, means,” he said.
