Held every Wednesday during high season, bANANaCANtiNA Charity Nights are VERY popular, so call (322) 222-2114 to make your reservations TODAY!
At the end of February, 2008; Banana Cantina customers Bill and Doc came to the restaurant for dinner as they did every Thursday. That particular night they said, "We have a gift for you!" The gift was approximately $4000 pesos.

It came from Kenny Luchs, who plays some really great piano; Bill, Carol, Dee and others who love to sing. They had asked Javier and Herman at Garbos if they could hold a two-hour open mike session on Thursday evenings at 7 pm.

The name Kenny Luchs and The Luncheonettes quickly caught on. Lo and behold, people tipped them. They were just having fun and didn't want the money. They wanted to do something useful with it, but weren’t sure where to donate it.

They asked Maryann and Endra of Apaches Bar who suggested, "Give it to Debbi at bANANaCANtiNA, as she'll know who to give it to." We pulled three of the charity night names out of a hat, and all were surprised and grateful to receive an unexpected, but always needed cash donation.

This year Bill, Doc, Carol and Kenny came to me early and said, "We are going to do open mike at Garbos again this year and we want you to come tell what we are doing, we want to raise even more money."

With the help of Kenny's wife Carol, new singers each week, some new friends who happily passed the tip bowl, and a weekly donation from Garbos, a grand total of $17,705 pesos has been raised in the last four weeks.

R.I.S.E., Children of the Dump/School of Champions, Gib and V.E.S. are the lucky recipients this year. Hats off to the kind hearted, talented people who visit us in Vallarta and to the fun and giving community of local business owners! I can't wait for next February!

In the meantime, stop by bANANaCANtiNA on Wednesday nights for great food, drinks, service and lots of fun, while helping us raise funds for local schools and charities.
