President Calderón Meets with Janet Napolitano and Eric Holder, with whom he exchanges points of view on the bilateral agenda between Mexico and the United States.
Official Residence - Mexican President Felipe Calderón received Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and US Attorney General Eric Holder at the Official Los Pinos residence.

During the meeting, they exchanged points of view on the bilateral agenda between Mexico and the United States regarding border cooperation, security and migration. They also covered a wide range of topics in order to have a safer shared border, but also one that is more efficient.

A propos of this, the Mexican President presented a proposal dealing with the construction and modernization of six border crossing points, which, if carried out quickly, would undoubtedly have an important, positive economic impact on both countries.

As for the advances in cooperation regarding security, the President hailed the results achieved at the bilateral forum held yesterday by those responsible for justice in the two countries, in which the phenomenon of organized crime was analyzed in an integral fashion and it was agreed to exchange information that will make it possible to combat arms dealing more effectively and identify criminals, as well as applying sanctions to those that commit crimes.

He also hailed the constructive attitude President Obama's government has shown in reinforcing border security and dealing with the problem of organized crime, under the principle of shared responsibility. He repeated that crime fighting must focus on the commitment and joint responsibility of the two countries, as a result of which he expressed his interest in continuing to increase cooperation between the governments of Mexico and the United States on this issue, through firm, coordinated actions on either side of the border.

For her part, Janet Napolitano hailed the struggle undertaken by President Felipe Calderón's fight against organized crime and said that the United States is analyzing the way in which it will implement actions that will help reduce arms and money trafficking from the United States into Mexico.

On the migratory issue, President Calderón expressed his concern over the status of Mexican migrants in the United States. He repeated his government’s respect for the application of migratory laws in that nation, adding that it was crucial not to violate migrants' fundamental human rights. He also stressed the need to acknowledge the enormous economic contributions made by Mexican migrants in the United States.

Lastly, they agreed to continue working on new cooperation programs and to maintain a constant, open dialogue that will enable them to deal with the challenges we face as neighboring countries.

President Calderón was accompanied by Secretaries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, Fernando Gómez Mont and Patricia Espinosa Cantellano respectively, and Attorney General, Eduardo Medina Mora.
