President Inaugurates Plaza Bicentenario, the latest addition to the recovery of public spaces program.
Aguascalientes - During the inauguration of Plaza Bicentenario, President Felipe Calderón said that he will ensure local authorities fulfill their commitment to purge their police corps, "Because we don't want Federal Government to have to do all the work."

During his working tour of the state of Aguascalientes, the President said that one of the goals of his administration is to give Mexicans a capable, reliable police force.

“A police force that is well-trained and can be entrusted with Mexicans' security.

The police, like the Mexican army have acted bravely by dealing with criminals, because federal forces have not shirked their duty as regards crime: in fact, they have already had several confrontations," he declared.

Accompanied by State Governor Luis Armando Reynoso Femat and Secretary of Social Development Ernesto Cordero Arroyo, the President said that he trusted Congress will approve the reform bill he submitted on retail drug detailing.

“Congress is already analyzing this bill. And I hope it can be analyzed, debated and resolved with the importance and speed that this problem, which affects all Mexicans, deserves," he said.

In the new Parque Bicentenario, so named to commemorate the 200 years of Mexican Independence, President Calderón said that the actions his government has undertaken to combat crime include recovering public spaces, which now total over a thousand.

“All these efforts are part of an integral Federal Government strategy to deal with the issue of security, but also for your benefit. It will contribute to your health and recreation and provide a better life for all the residents of Aguascalientes and all Mexicans," he said.

During the event, the President reported that the government of Aguascalientes will lend Government the scapular used by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla during Independence, as part of the 2010 festivities.
