“I congratulate the directors of Becton Dickinson on their decision to invest and believe in Mexico. He reported that the capital Becton Dickinson has assigned to Mexico will be for a new manufacturing plant in San Luis Potosí, as well as the expansion of operations in Cuautitlán, Izcalli, Mexico State and that it will create a thousand direct jobs and approximately three thousand indirect jobs.

In the Manuel Ávila Camacho Hall in Los Pinos, the Mexican president said that Mexico is the Untied States' third largest provider of health products, after Ireland and Germany. He added that exports of medical and surgical instruments and apparatuses have risen from 800 million USD ten years ago to nearly 4 billion USD in 2008.

Accompanied by Governors of the State of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and San Luis Potosí, Marcelo de los Santos Fraga and Secretaries of the Economy, Gerardo Ruiz Mateos and Health, José Ángel Córdova, President Calderón urged his audience to continue with both work and investment to overcome problems that arise.

“I know that we will pull through and I know we are on the right track towards overcoming this adversity. That is why in my government we are working to overcome the challenges facing Mexico, because the point is not to avoid having problems but to cope with them and to have the will to overcome them. The point is to seek solutions without getting bogged down in the situation or going off course, by keeping a firm hold of the tiller, with a clear vision of what we must do to make Mexico change and turn into the nation to which we all aspire," he said.
