Mexico City - At this Saturday's press conference, Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova hailed the efforts of all the workers in the health sector throughout the country, who have worked overtime to cope with the influenza outbreak. He also acknowledged the support of international institutions such as the World Health Organization, the Pan-American Health Organization, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

The Health Secretary reported that 200 tests have yet to be carried out, the results of which will be made public over the next few hours.

A total of 1,303 tests have been carried out, 473 of which have been positive, and 454 of which correspond to people who are alive and 19 to those that have died.

Córdova Villalobos said that the cases correspond to 18 states in Mexico, although they are concentrated in Valle de México.

Fourteen of those that died were women and 5 men.

CONAMEF has reviewed 218 files of suspected cases, which includes all cases up to April 30.

The Health Secretary remarked that phone consultations have been made at 01800 123 10 10 for emotional issues, accounting for 15% of the total number of calls received.

A total of 2,409,676 calls have been received at 01800 123 10 10 to date.

He also thanked citizens for handling this contingency in a mature fashion and urged both society and government to remain united in the face of this situation.

Interior Secretary Gómez-Mont said that the IFE issued an agreement today postponing the start of political campaigns to May 15 2009.

These health guidelines are intended to ensure strict control of the physical and health conditions of both indoor and outdoor political events.

Gómez-Mont reported that by virtue of the powers vested in him by the emergency treatment decree, the Health Secretary signed a new agreement making these guidelines compulsory. He therefore exhorted political parties not to organize large-scale events that would prevent compliance with these guidelines.

The Interior Secretariat said that political parties have supported these health measures at all times and that the IFE has assumed an attitude of solidarity and commitment towards this contingency.
