During the Teacher’s Day Celebration, the President gave awards for 30, 40 and 50 years' service.
Official Residence - President Felipe Calderón declared that the Quality Education Alliance is for Mexico's children and young people and that it has not reduced the desire of government or teachers to achieve the goal of improving the standards of the education they are obliged to provide.

“And make no mistake, this Alliance is an alliance for the country's educational quality, it is an alliance for the children and young people of Mexico, an alliance for the future," he added.

At the Esplanade leading to the Monument of Francisco I. Madero, the President, accompanied by his wife Margarita Zavala; Public Education Secretary, Alonso Lujambio Irazábal, Elba Esther Gordillo Morales, President of the National Executive Committee of the National Education Workers' Executive Committee, led the Teachers’ Day Celebrations and thanked teachers for their solidarity during the renewal of classes following the Influenza A/H1N1 virus outbreak.

“I would like to take the occasion of Teachers' Day to thank all the country's teachers, on behalf of Mexico, for the responsibility and solidarity they have shown during the current health-related situation Mexico is experiencing," he said.

Addressing an audience of teachers from various states, President Calderón instructed the Public Education Secretary and Health Secretary José Ángel Córdova to issue guidelines that could become a decree, to implement specific actions that will speed up the construction of basic infrastructure workers in the schools that so require, particularly health services.

“The aim is for there not to be a single school without these basic services. For reasons of health, education but above all, the dignity of students, teachers and all Mexicans,” he explained.

A year after the Education Quality Alliance was formalized, the Mexican president that there is a second challenge and long-term goal, namely the transformation of the Education System, which Federal Government has proposed.

He said that Mexico requires a quality education to provide young people with the capacity and tools to be able to go out into a global world and the knowledge society.

“We have achieved significant success in remodeling school infrastructure, boosting professionalization and evaluating teachers and government itself," he said.

Evoking Francisco I. Madero, President Calderón urged teachers to redouble efforts in favor of young people and together with Federal Government, to consolidate a quality education system with a future befitting the country's dignity and history.

“Mexico's teachers have always heeded the country's call to act responsibly and use their dedication to train the upcoming generations," he said.

He went on to refer to the war on crime and organized crime his government has waged, adding that this is a solid, lasting commitment. He added that although costs are involved in a war against crime, Mexico had to pay a much higher cost as a result of its failure to deal with crime and criminals.

“Every parent torn apart by being deprived of the company or life of a son or daughter; every small business owner who has suffered extortion, and every teacher who has been mugged. These millions of Mexicans, who suffered and continue to suffer as a result of crime, lack of action, passivity, cowardice or inefficiency, whatever made our country fall into this decline. These are the true costs we have to calculate,” he said.

President Calderón said that, “This is the worst thing Mexican society has had to contend with. That is why it is important to persevere with this challenge."

He added that the good news is that Mexico has not only been capable of dealing with but is now overcoming these challenges, the most severe the country has ever experienced.

He declared that, "Despite these major crises regarding security, the economy and health, we are coping with these challenges thanks to Mexicans' unity."
