Confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu are rising in the Mexican State of Jalisco as a backlog of cases are tested. The latest flu cases being reported are up to four weeks old. Most of those with the flu have fully recovered.
The best-known cities in Jalisco are its capital and Mexico's second-largest city, Guadalajara, and the west coast resort city of Puerto Vallarta.
As of Wednesday, June 3, a total of 133 cases of the flu have been confirmed in Guadalajara and just six have been reported in Puerto Vallarta.
By contrast, to date, there have been nine confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in San Francisco, according to Eileen Shields, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Ironically, some of the cruise ships that were scheduled to dock in Puerto Vallarta diverted to San Francisco and other west coast ports with more flu cases.
During the height of the flu scare, San Diego had also ported cruise ships that had been scheduled to dock in Puerto Vallarta. As of Wednesday, June 3, San Diego County has had 216 confirmed H1N1 cases, County Health Spokeswoman Holly Crawford told the Examiner.com.

Despite just six H1N1 cases, Puerto Vallarta’s economy has been hard hit by the flu.
Because of the scare, many folks who had planned trips to Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara canceled leaving hotels begging for business. If you are watching your budget, there may be no better time to visit Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara. The exchange rate is very favorable, running at more than 13 pesos per dollar. This time last year, the exchange rate was about 10 pesos per dollar. Most hotels are slashing prices by up to 50% to bribe tourists into returning.
