The Wonders of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
email this pageprint this pageemail usJudy Krings - PVNN

What better place than Puerto Vallarta to combine relaxation amidst charismatic charm, fragrant flora, and authentic Mexican culture and spirit?
My husband, Ken, and I may be residing in our home on the shores of cool Lake Michigan, but in May, we left half our hearts in Puerto Vallarta high above the shores of beautiful Banderas Bay. Since our return to the USA, PV has become quite a hot topic in our cool city, Manitowoc, WI. I have grabbed an "educate and illuminate" megaphone - and people are listening.

On my radio show the other day, I blasted the media for spreading biased rumors about Mexico. I regaled the great health care in Vallarta and Pamela Thompson's eagle eye watching out for all us Gringos. I enlightened listeners describing the incredibly kind PV folks, and the lack of swine flu, drugs, and crime.

I reviewed my presentation to benefit 'Sally’s Corner,' the new children's section at Los Mangos Library, and described the generous, enthusiastic response. I showcased the need for books, and I will be bringing down a suitcase load in fall. My friends have begun a book drive, too.

Better yet, this week, I gave myself a personal "PV Survival" adventure. Our newspaper advertised a "Girl's Getaway" travel group organized by a local travel agent. I called her, and we chatted about the trip she was offering in October, a very affordable trip to a different Mexico destination.

I talked with her about my coaching career, and my dream to get vacationers to come to Puerto Vallarta for renewal, personal growth, and art appreciation. What better place to combine relaxation amidst charismatic charm, fragrant flora, and authentic Mexican culture and spirit? And with gourmet food to die for - as well as the best tacos on the planet! - all served up with marvelous Mexican hospitality.

I was on a mission! I got to the meeting early, talked with several friends, and every chance I got, when every other destination was suggested, I found some way to one-up it with Puerto Vallarta. What fun!

Several women had been to PV years ago, but they couldn't quite remember it. Needless to say, they got an update worthy of every sculpture on the Malecon. My digital camera was passed around. Ooh's and aah's echoed as the 45 guests marveled at Puerto Vallarta's beach sunsets, botanical garden, and quaint cobblestone streets. They discovered that 'Old Mexico' is alive and well, but they can also get a Starbucks!

I saved the ace up my sleeve for last... Our wondrous whales! You should have heard the squeals of delight. No one realized our breaching Banderas Bay bonanzas could be seen for several months. By the end of the meeting, the majority of the group wanted to come to Puerto Vallarta! Two trips in fall and winter are now being investigated. I threw in some free life coaching on the beach and a cocktail party at our condo.

I may only be one person, but if I can make a difference, even a tiny difference, it will make my heart sing. I care about my Mexican friends. I want prosperity back in Puerto Vallarta, the city that I love.

My first grade teacher was right. She said, "Judy, someday your big mouth is going to get you into trouble!" She was right. But there are also times I harness my vocal chords, and others sing along. I hope this is one of them.
