The Paradise Village El Tigre Golf & Country Club announced that the Negra Modelo Riviera Nayarit Tour will hold a Pro-Am golf tournament, featuring the best professional golfers in Mexico, who will team up with amateurs from local residents and golfers that will be coming from all around the Americas. The tournament will be held from August 27-August 30, 2009.

On August 26th, the day prior to the Pro-Am, all 72 professionals will play one round and the winner will qualify for the Mexican Open, the most prestigious and important tournament in the country. The 72 professionals will come from country clubs and golf courses throughout Mexico. The total purse will be a large $675,000 pesos for the one-day pro tournament.

The format of play in the Negra Modelo Pro-Am is a bit different than most. There will be four amateur players on each team along with one pro. The first day on Thursday will be a Pro-Am, Friday will be the pros only and Saturday will have an amateur tournament in the morning and the second round of pros in the afternoon. Sunday's final day of play will be a competition between the top six amateurs in each category and the top 27 pros.

There are five categories of play. For the men the four divisions are those with handicaps of seven (7) and below, 7.1 - 14, 14.1 - 24 and 24.1 - 36. The ladies will compete in only one classification. The cost for the whole event is just $1500 pesos + tax. Prizes will be given away as well as the cash prizes for the professional golfers. There will be trophies presented for the top three finishers in each category. Special prizes for hole in one, closest to the pin and more will be revealed as the tournament nears.

The reason why the tournament is being held at El Tigre is because, after just seven years in operation, El Tigre is considered one of the ten best golf courses in Mexico as well as one of the most challenging courses designed by Robert Van Hagge, Smekel and Baril. They have designed over 200 golf courses in the world. For more information about El Tigre, one can visit their website at ElTigreGolf.com. Media from all of Mexico, the United States and Latin America will be covering the event.

For more information or to sign up to compete, one can call locally at (322) 297-0773 or (322) 226-8190. For long distance in Mexico dial 01 + area code + telephone number, and if calling from out of the country, you must first dial 011 + 52. For information via email, contact head pro Francisco Salazar at fsalazar(at)paradisevillagegroup.com or El Tigre Director Jesus Carmona at jcarmonagolf(at)paradisevillagegroup.com.

At $1500 pesos this is quite a deal, but enter quickly, before the field fills.
