Some of the local fighters surround promoter Jose Luis "Rayo" Uribe, who is holding the Mexican Amateur Title belt.
Muay Thai boxing is back with a full card presented by Jose Luis "Rayo" Uribe of Tanai Luark Gym at the Collage Club this Friday, September 18th at 8:00 PM. A press conference was held at Mi Querencia Restaurant Tuesday to present the 12 bout card, which includes three professional bouts, an amateur fight for a Mexican championship belt and eight amateur fights. Fighters will be from four different gyms in Puerto Vallarta and others will travel from La Piedad, Michoacan, Tepic, Nayarit and Tomatlan, Jalisco.

The main event will be a 62kg bout between Eder "Thai" Hueta of Tanai Luark Gym of Puerto Vallarta against Jorge Lenin Lopez of La Piedad, Michoacan. The professional undercard consists of two co-main events. Rigoberto "Duro" Murguia of Tanai Luark will battle Marco A. Ramirez of Michoacan in the 73kg classification and Guillermo "Willy" Estrada, also of Tanai Luark will fight Alvaro Lopez of Sityodtong Gym in Puerto Vallarta in the weight class of 60kg.

Professional fights are five rounds, three minutes each with a two minute rest period between each round. The fighters wear no protection other than shin and elbow pads and most bouts do not go the distance due to the intensity and variety of kicks, punches and also some wrestling tactics.

The amateur Mexican championship bout will have Noe Mota of Mota Gym in Puerto Vallarta battling Mahatma "Araρa" Garcia who will travel in from Tepic and the two will battle for the belt in the 60kg weight division. This fight will also be five rounds, but will be two minute rounds with a one minute rest between rounds. The fighters will wear full protection that includes protective headgear.

The remaining eight fights will open the big night's card and will be three round amateur bouts and are three, two minute rounds with a one minute rest between rounds. The fighters will also wear full protective gear to prevent injury.

Tickets are $150 pesos pre sale and one can get tickets at Mi Querencia Restaurant located on the Malecon, just 1/2 block north of City Hall. Other places to buy presale tickets are at Tanai Luark Gym, Lanna Gym or Heavy Metal Gym. Ticket prices at the door are $200 pesos. Despite the slow time of year a full crowd is anticipated for this popular sport. If you have never been to a Muay Thai night of boxing, treat yourself to a Friday night at the Collage Club at the Marina and enjoy the action.
