Mexico City - The government of Mexico City reported that it is fully ready to protect the security of people attending patriotic festivities planned to take place this week. There will be celebrations held in the Zócalo, or main square, honoring the "Grito de Dolores" on September 15 and Mexico's Independence Day on September 16.

The security operation will consist of street agents, public security and civil protection units as well as emergency medical services and even mobile complaint stations where people can make police statements, for example, if something is stolen.

Seven checkpoints have been installed in the various access routes to the Zócalo where city police and the Secret Service will be responsible for observing activities.

These checkpoints will be located at the intersections of the streets: Venustiano Carranza and Palma; 20 de Noviembre and the corner of the Plaza de la Consititución (the Zócalo); 5 de Mayo and Palma; Montepío and Tacuba, as well as Seminario and Guatemala.

The mobile complaint stations along with three tents for emergency medical care and emergency telephone booths will be located in the plaza itself, along with the Morelos Base, an operations station for over 30 state organizations who will be monitoring the area during the festivities.

The city government also reported that they are expecting "alternative" celebrations at the Hemiciclo a Juárez Monument. Avenida Juárez will not be open to traffic between Balderas and Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas.

The Collective Transport Metro (STC) station Zócalo on Line 2 will remain closed all day Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16. All metro lines will run on the Holiday/Sunday schedule on Wednesday.

Similarly, the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM) reported that on September 16 there will be no aircraft arrivals or departures from 9:00am to 1:00pm; 180 flights will be rescheduled. The "Grito de Dolores," or Cry of/from Dolores, was the battle cry of the Mexican War of Independence against Spain that started September 16, 1810 in the small town of Dolores, Guanajuato.
