Vallarta Yacht Club Holds 2009 La Regata de Revolucion Sailing Regatta

Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit – On Saturday, November 14 to Monday, November 16, sailors representing yacht clubs from Acapulco, Jalisco-Chapala, Nuevo Leon, State of Mexico-Valle de Bravo and Nayarit will meet at the Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC) to compete in the first Junior Sailing Regata de Revolucion One-Design national regatta.

This will be a qualifying event for forming the Optimist Class Mexican National Team to represent Mexico at the 2010 South American Championships in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Other classes competing at La Regata de Revolucion will include two Laser classes and the 420 class.

Registration for all events will take place Saturday, November 14, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Racing events will commence at 12:00 pm on each day of the regatta.

About the Optimist:

The Optimist dinghy is the little sail boat in which most young people of the world learn to sail. Optimists are sailed in over 110 countries by over 180,000 young people. Over 300,000 of the little boats have been built, making them the largest and fastest growing One-Design fleet I the world. The Optimist is also the dinghy approved by the international sailing Federation exclusively for sailors under 16 years of age. At the 2008 Olympics, over 85 percent of the medal winning boat skippers began their sailing careers as Optimist sailors.

About the Vallarta Yacht Club:

The Vallarta Yacht Club is a non-profit, member-owned, private club with social, nautical and community objectives. It has over 500 members and is located in Nuevo Vallarta in the heart of the Riviera Nayarit adjacent to Paradise Village Marina. The club is in its 6th year and is the fastest growing yacht club in Mexico. In addition to the Regata de Revolucion, other signature events include the WesMex Regata, the Banderas Bay Regatta, the San Diego / Vallarta Yacht Club Races, the Great Chili Cookoff, the Vallarta Art and Wine Festival, the Jamm’n with Tom Coster Jazz Nights, and much more. Other significant events included hosting the 2007 J24 Worlds Championship and the Optimist North American Championship (OPTINAM 2997).
