(Presidencia de la República)
Mexico City - President Calderón led the inauguration of the Annual Meeting of the Mexican Center for Philanthropy-Solidarity Today: Everyone’s Responsibility, held at the Terraza Virreyes Hall in the Camino Real Hotel in Mexico City.

The 2009 CEMEFI Annual Meeting marks the first twenty years of institutional life and service to society, by promoting citizens' organized philanthropic participation and social responsibility by business.

During the meeting, the various ways in which both individual and organized solidarity are expressed will be publicized. The aim is to reinforce, renew and inspire civic actions of solidarity, responsibility and generosity in Mexico and share the fact that México Solidario continues to grow and advance.

President Felipe Calderón will inaugurate the event, accompanied by his wife Margarita Zavala, who will serve as Witness of Honor during the Prize-Giving Ceremony for Commitment to Others.

The aims of the meeting are as follows:

• Encourage a culture of civic solidarity and promote its organization and reinforcement;

• Present cases of organized solidarity to promote the country's integral development, through responsible participation in civil society organizations, foundations, donor organizations and firms that serve the community;

• Explore and share ideas on the importance of citizens’ organized solidarity to deal with issues of Mexico’s economic and social development.

This forum of meeting and reflection is expected to be attended by a thousand people, including the leaders of the country’s main civil society foundations and organizations as well as socially responsible businessmen, government officials and legislators; popular representatives and social leaders; academics and communicators, in order to share experiences, points of view, ideas and projects to contribute to Mexico’s integral development.

The topics to be discussed at the various panels include: “From Individual Commitment to Organized Solidarity,” “Organized Solidarity for Social Change,” and “Social Investment for Community Development."
