Singapore - Trade protectionism is a major threat to the global economic recovery while countries should stop manipulating their currencies, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said on Saturday.

"We need to defeat trade protectionism," Calderon told a meeting of business and political leaders at an Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Singapore.

APEC trade ministers agreed earlier this year to stamp out trade protectionism, but comments from leaders in Singapore this week suggest this has yet to happen.
