Listen to the Story
A total of 14,000 have been killed in Mexico since 2006. And the war on drugs south of the border is far from over.

Mexican president Felipe Calderon has ordered the Mexican Army to lead the fight, but many say the cartels have gained tremendous power.

Host Jacki Lyden talks to Prof. Jorge Chabat, who teaches at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics in Mexico City, about the state of the war and its effect on the county.
