In this fight against crime, we will not take a single step backwards, because the point is to protect and enforce the freedom left to us by those capable of building an independent Mexico.
- President Calderón
In Morelia, Michoacán, President Felipe Calderón repeated that there will be no peace for the country’s or Mexicans’ enemies, which is why Federal Government will continue the fight against petty and organized crime to turn Mexico into a country of laws and freedom, as José María Morelos y Pavón wished.

“In this fight against crime, we will not take a single step backwards, because the point is to protect and enforce the freedom left to us by those capable of building an independent Mexico,” he said.

In the re-opening of the Casa Morelos Museum, the President recalled that his administration is dealing firmly with organized crime to ensure that the rule of law prevails over the violent, arbitrary, cowardly action of criminals.

He said that these criminal groups seek to subject Mexico and impose a law that is not that of Mexicans.

He referred to the recent blow against one of these organizations, which, he said, “is the result of the joint efforts of all the federal forces and meticulous intelligence work.”

Accompanied by his wife Margarita Zavala, and state governor Leonel Godoy Rangel, the President regretted the death of Anahí Gómez, who died as a result of injuries caused during a confrontation in that state.

“This deed reflects the indescribable cowardice that characterizes the acts of criminals seeking to destroy Michoacán and Mexico who extort, kidnap and prevent the freedom of Michoacán's residents.

President Calderón said that the 1810 generation, led by Hidalgo and Morelos achieved Mexicans’ rights with bravery and audacity, adding that it is the Bicentennial Generations' duty to use all the state's power to protect the invaluable patrimony for which our heroes sacrificed their lives.

“Morelos fought for National Independence, convinced that this was his mission in life. There are generations that must fight for freedom and there are generations that must fight to preserve it,” he said. See President’s speech.
