Old Town Farmers Market a Social Affair

April 22, 2010

On Saturday, April 24, Los Frixoleros will perform at the Old Town Farmers Market from 10:30 am ‘til 'round about noon.
You never know what you will find at the Old Town Farmers Market at the New Paradise Community Center on Pulpito (between Amapas and Olas Altas) each Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.

There are new vendors each week and this Saturday, April 24, the Frixoleros, the popular traditional music duo of Camila Aguirre and Daniel Sanchez, will be performing from approximately 10:30 am ‘til noonish.

Sure, you’ll still see, smell and/or taste the fresh-baked breads and pastries, the homemade pickles and salsas, the herbs, the veggies, the rare tropical fruit, but what good are these simple staples of life without a touch of the unexpected?

Speaking of the unexpected, this Saturday Alphonso from La Leche is bringing an Argentinian food channel and a national Mexican TV network to do on site interviews, so if you want to be a star, dress to impress!

As the tourist season draws to a close here in Vallarta, the new faces become fewer and the regulars start standing out in the crowd. It would be presumptuous to say that the farmers market is a social affair but it would also be lacking to not mention this aspect.

Where else can a person attend a party with hundreds of other like-minded souls (like-minded in that they all appreciate fine food), listen to music, sit in the shade of an old parota tree and eat home-made goodies like traditional Mexican comida or non-traditional specialty BBQ sausages while visiting with old friends and newfound acquaintances?

Where else, indeed.
