Saturday, Border Angels and many of its supporters caravaned south of the border to Mexicali and surrounding areas to distribute the very generous donations have been received since last Sunday for those in Baja California that suffered from Easter's 7.2 earthquake.

This is part of the first tent city we visited. It's called El Mayor Cucapa.

Eight vehicles, filled to the brim, formed Saturday's caravan.

The social hall of the Unitarian Universalist church in Chula Vista was still half way full Sunday morning. Most urgent items were taken first to Mexico. Many remain and will be taken by the next caravan next Saturday morning.

Our UU mobile performed quite well considering the damaged roads and rough terrain separating the different 'ejidos' (indigenous communities).

Emergency supplies included some teddy bears.

The Sacamoto tribal grounds were inundated with hot, sulphuric water rising several feet within seconds of the earth opening up all around them. This shelter will be their long-term housing until their damaged homes are repaired. The big tent is functioning as a distribution center for other ejidos nearby, including one called La Puerta.

Enrique Morones, long time immigrant activist and founder of Border Angels, holds little America Noelia, born the day before to undocumented parents who used to live in Indio, CA before their deportation.

This shelter, based in converted baseball field, provides shower stalls and porta-potties.

People line up to receive donated items. The Mexican National Guard, firefighters, and police officers are doing a wonderful job at keeping supplies flowing to people who need them the most.
Thanks again to all that have been so generous and supportive of Border Angels, we really need your help now as we have both the Earthquake situation and the hot summer months ahead.
