Madrid – The manager of a top Spanish matador who suffered a horrendous goring in Mexico says the bullfighter's life is no longer in danger.

Salvador Boix said doctors in Mexico are preparing to take matador Jose Tomas off sedation gradually and that he is "totally out of danger."

Tomas was gored in the left groin Saturday during a bullfight in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes, and Boix says he has received a blood transfusion of up to 17 pints (eight liters).

Boix spoke Monday from Aguascalientes to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
