Volunteer for a Festival and Heal in the Wisdom - Part 3
email this pageprint this pageemail usPhilippo Lo Grande - PVNN
May 4, 2010

Philippo Lo Grande shares some of the experiences he's had while volunteering at Music Festivals in North America - from Kerrville, Texas to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The most expensive crew to keep running is Transportation. Keeping the farm vehicles gassed and lubed is easy compared to the cost of insurance and parts that it takes to pick up from the airport and deliver to the stage just one musician in the hope that maybe this one will be catapulted into world wide recognition like Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen or Nanci Griffith. We have to remember that it's their words that will help us all "to heal in the wisdom, then we will understand."

An unknown singer with heart has just as good of a chance as any other hard working poet/musician. Only one will hold the coveted title of this year's New Folk Winner. Next year it could be you, if you send in your music to be considered. It could make all the difference in the world. The pertinent information can be found on their website, updated regularly at kerrville-music.com.

I think Administration has the most difficult job, there's just too many things to be done and someone has to decide just who, what, and how it's going to be. Cheyanne and Dalas understand that only the land and songs really last, if we give thanks often and persevere, all will be back and healed.

Everyone's a friend of Vern. He has a big white beard and sky blue eyes, he sets his stack of Texas Folk Music Foundation calendars down and joins right in pushing an oversized R.V. into one of the few available places. I knew there would be some unhappy campers nearby if their generator was allowed to run all night, but "Se-kerr-ity" showed up and took care of it with their bright red shirts a'blazing.

Now if they could just get those stinking loud golf carts to drive away the photographers who jump up in front and start clicking away just as a lonesome ballads singer starts. "Love one another from the heart, comfort each other and keep your promises, be supportive of each other and help bear each other's burdens and we will celebrate each others songs as the Psalms celebrate the Bible. There is no greater weapon than kindness."

Which brings to mind another one of my favorite venues in Puerto Vallarta that deserves your support - the Isla Cuale Festival. Now in its 4th year, the Isla Cuale Festival takes place on the most beautiful piece of land in Vallarta. The stage is set up by the ocean and for 2 weeks in March Artists musicians and all sorts of interesting cultural happenings take place.

This year they are reaching out to the world asking for volunteers and answers to the same questions about environment, entertainment, education and endurance. Miriam came down from Texas and played last year, and even though more songs have been written about that place than any other, she loved playing here, "because in Vallarta you don't hear any sad songs about the border. Here it's all about the friendly relaxed way of the people the warm breezes, waves and sand."
