La Cigale - A French Bistro in Puerto Vallarta
email this pageprint this pageemail usGary R. Beck - PVNN
May 09, 2010

La Cigale French Bistro is located at Hidalgo 398, Esquina Iturbide in downtown Puerto Vallarta. For more information, call (322) 222-7938/322-172-8852 or visit LaCigaleBistro.com.
Two charming owners, Catalina Egard Gonzalez and Christophe Bevilacqua, have recreated a typical (I am told!) French bistro with smaller tables, a chalkboard menu, lovely hardwood pine bar and cushioned banquettes, just one short block from Guadalupe Church. The mood is bustling bistro and one feels immediately transported into some small French hideaway, but it is urban Puerto Vallarta.

Though the season is winding down, this place was packed on a recent night. After a quick skim through the choices on a chalkboard brought to the table, one needs to take a tasty long trip. We opted to share Escargot Provencal in garlic butter.

Then I had to sample the Salad Nicoise since it is very often 'slaughtered'. Pleasantly surprised, the composition contained all the customary items as fresh tuna chunks, green beans, cherry tomato, black olives, anchovies, boiled potato and hard-boiled egg.

My companion had Steak Tartar made with very fine lean beef and spiced by the server according to taste. It came with Pomme Frites (French fries). An extensive selection of, guess what, French wines by the glass was impressive and fair priced.

Their intense spirit, love and dedication shown won over all the guests. I was forced, yeah right, to have Profiteroles au Chocolat for dessert and managed to devour all three and the vanilla ice cream. Fine coffees are offered.

Next up: French Onion Soup, huge Artichoke Vinaigrette, Marinated Flank Steak with Bearnaise, Mussels appetizer and main course, Red Snapper with Ratatouille, warm Brie Cheese in pastry dough served with apricot marmalade and Petite Brownies Bouchee with strawberry ice cream. These and other ever-changing temptations await one and all.

Every Monday-Friday La Cigale offers a delicious lunch menu featuring eggs, omelettes, Quiche Lorraine, Salads and Baguette Sandwiches. Dinner prices range from $75-$100 pesos, entrees from $140-$170 pesos and desserts from $70-$85 pesos.

Open Mon-Fri from 12 pm-12 am and from 6 pm-12 am on weekends, La Cigale French Bistro is located at Hidalgo 398, Esquina Iturbide in downtown Puerto Vallarta. For more information, call (322) 222-7938/322-172-8852 or visit LaCigaleBistro.com.
