Kirtan with Raoul Diaz at davannayoga
email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN
June 15, 2010

Raoul Diaz is the founder of Saraswati Multidimensional Creativity Organization.
Enjoy the setting sun and sing under the stars on the rooftop terrace as davannayoga presents this season's final Kirtan with Raoul Diaz. (In case of rain, Kirtan will be held in downstairs yoga studio.)

What is Kirtan?

The Sanskrit word "Kirtana" means Telling, Repeating, Mentioning, Celebrating. In Yoga, the practice of Kirtan is a call-and-response chanting of ancient vibrational Sanskrit mantras to empty out unnecessary thoughts and bring sacred energy.

Deeply rooted in Vedic traditions and going back more than 500 years, the devotional song/chants called kirtans are still used today as a path to spiritual enlightenment. Kirtan offers a means to connect to the heart, to the divinity that lies within and is seen as a "singing to the Divine."

It is the combination of the ancient mantras, the classical Indian musical instruments playing music from long ago, the length of the chanting (each chant or song can last for about 20 minutes) and the group environment that elevate the individual mind to a place of spiritual enlightenment. A brief background will be given on Kirtan beforehand and there will be song books to follow. Children Welcome!
