Puerto Vallarta – It was announced today that Prague’s celebrated Black Light Theatre will be performing The Adventures of Dr. Frankenstein for one night only, Saturday, June 12th, 7:00 pm, in Vallarta’s beautiful new performing-arts venue, Teatro Vallarta.

Black Light Theater has been a favorite art form throughout the centuries. The concept of a black light show was first used in 17th century China for the entertainment of Emperors. Japan then used the technique in the 18th century; and in the 1950s, French puppeteers started to use the method.

In the 1980s, Czech theaters began to use black light during their performances, and a Czech cultural tradition was born. Many Black Light Theatres exist today throughout the Czech Republic and continue to be a popular form of entertainment.

This art form takes the audience on a path from total darkness to vivid lights and colors in the extreme, creating an intricate visual illusion. The actors cover themselves in black clothing and masks. Against a black background the actors manipulate florescent painted objects made visible by florescent black lights. The objects appear to hover and move independently while the actors in black manipulate them. Inanimate objects seem to become actors themselves. Dancers in florescent clothing appear to float with the aid of the black-costumed actors. The effect creates an ever-changing dreamlike state where actors and objects seem to break physical rules.

The Adventures of Dr. Frankenstein takes the audience on a journey across Europe with the famous doctor in his pursuit to create an artificial man. From the depths of the Atlantic to the streets of Paris, from the majestic Alps to the dark and mysterious Transylvania, the telling of this classic tale by Prague’s Black Light Theatre will be a truly memorable experience.

Prague’s Black Light Theatre Company has traveled many continents and has performed in countless cities over the years as representatives of the Czech culture. After having performed in over 50 international theatre festivals, Banderas Bay is honored to host them for this one-night-only memorable event.

Don’t miss The Adventures of Dr. Frankenstein on Saturday, June 12th, 7:00 pm in Vallarta’s beautiful new performing-arts venue, Teatro Vallarta.

For years, locals have been yearning for a state-of-the-art performance space that could handle world-class touring productions. With the announcement of Prague’s celebrated Black Light Theatre performing The Adventures of Dr. Frankenstein, expats, local nationals and visitors alike can now enjoy top productions without having to travel to Guadalajara or Mexico City. Tickets are $350 Pesos (plus a small service fee) for general seating or $450 Pesos for preferred seating, and are available now online at SuperBoletos.com or at the theatre’s box office, open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm.
