RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED IN PUERTO VALLARTA

The Marieta Islands - A group of rocky islands off the northern coast of Puerto Vallarta and they are the favorites of children and adolescents. A true sanctuary of wildlife and home to several species of animals like sea turtles, dolphins, tropical fish and sea birds. Numerous caves are on the islands along with its rich flora and fauna. Also, a popular spot for snorkeling, diving and kayaking.

A Day in a Traditional Mexican Ranch - It is an educational experience for the whole family. The small town environment allows you to interact with the locals, as well as an immersion in their customs and traditions. Some ranches also offer tours on horseback, motorbike or hiking on the surrounding ecosystem. Tourists also have the opportunity to taste some of the Mexican delicacies.

Indigenous Community Wixarika - A visit to the indigenous community of San Andrés Coamihata, Wixarika Indians' home, better known as the Huichol Indians, will be highly educational experience for parents and children. Visiting this remote village in the mountains, hidden in the top of the Sierra Madre, is like having a giant leap back in time, and a rich cultural experience in ancient traditions. It is believed that the Wixarika are direct descendants of the Aztec, and are perhaps the last indigenous group in North America who live according to their ancient pre-Columbian traditions, a feat that has been achieved thanks to their confinement in the mountains. Visitors are welcome to learn about the rich mythology of the community, ceremonial ritual and spirituality. San Andrés Coamihata is reachable in a scenic one hour flight from Puerto Vallarta airport.

Turtle Release Program - An educational experience for the whole family in the protection and conservation of a species in danger of extinction, release of the turtle in Puerto Vallarta is particularly significant for the younger children. Every year, during the months of May through September, thousands of sea turtles spawn on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta. Once the baby turtles are born, several hotels invite guests to take part in the liberation of the newborn turtles, finding their way into the water.

Tirolesa (Rainforest)- A favorite of both adults and children. The tirolesa is an exciting place to visit and learn about the varied flora and fauna of the rain forest surrounding Puerto Vallarta. Adrenaline increases as one moves by the Sierra Madre from one tree to another. The landscape and birds are a spectacular vision.

Swim With The Dolphins - An encounter with these wonderful mammals is a unique, unparalleled experience. Children and adults can swim and play with the dolphins including petting and embracing them, or if you prefer, you can simply observe them. Special programs also allow you to spend an entire day with dolphin trainers for more information about this species.

Encounter With Sea Lions - An educational program that allows a close encounter with these playful and curious creatures. Visitors can interact with them in a pool and learn more about their behavior with the instructors trained in marine mammals.

ATV Tours - Spend the day outdoors exploring roads behind Puerto Vallarta in an off-road vehicle adventure, always a fun experience. The tour takes you along dirt roads and the rivers. These tours are open to children aged 6 years and older, but only if accompanied by an adult who has an official and valid license to drive.

Horseback Riding - Exploring the vegetation of the jungle and mountains around Puerto Vallarta by horse is a fun adventure for the whole family. Several ranches offer tours for this activity in which you can visit rivers, waterfalls, canyons and villages in the picturesque mountains. The horseback riding tours are not recommended for children under 10 years.

Water Parks - Swimming pools, hydro, water slides, dolphins, seals and sea lion shows are some of the activities offered by the aquatic parks. Age restrictions apply for certain activities.

So what are you waiting for? Contact any of the hotels, resorts or tour companies listed above to reserve your favorite activities and enjoy an unforgettable and incredible vacation, because in Puerto Vallarta "your fun comes to life."
