Mexico's attorney-general on Friday said he had no evidence that the country's drug gangs were involved in terrorism, after a deadly attack on two police cars in a northern border city.

"We don't have any evidence in the country of activities of narcoterrorism as it has occurred in other countries," Arturo Chavez Chavez told journalists.

He was unable to confirm whether a car bomb had been used in Thursday's attack, in which suspected drug gang members rammed a car which may have contained explosives into two police vehicles.
