Mexico City - During the closing ceremony of the National BBVA Bancomer Board Members’ Meeting, President Felipe Calderón declared that the banking sector’s work is crucial to enabling our country to address future challenges.

“Today, as I said, Mexico is resuming its steady pace and the path to solid growth, which I am delighted about.

Because Mexico is now a country that is regarded as a responsible economy worldwide that successfully coped with the enormous adversity we experienced last year,” he said.

Accompanied by Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Ernesto Cordero Arroyo, the President declared that during the crisis of 2009, Mexican banking was not only an obstacle but part of the solution to overcoming the problem.

A propos of this, he said, “It is time to take advantage of the strength of the banking sector.”

He said that thanks to its financial stability, Mexico has one of the best positioned economies to be able to take advantage of the growing economic recovery observed worldwide.

However, he said that everyone's efforts are required to speed up the recovery of our economy, in which the participation of the banking sector is crucial, since it must become the engine of economic recovery.

“Our banking sector also has enormous opportunities to encourage financial transparency and to combat actions or phenomena such as money laundering from its sphere,” he said.
