Mexico City - Mexico's central bank says the amount of money migrant workers sent home in the first half of 2010 fell 4.1 percent compared with the same period last year.

Remittances totaled $10.63 billion in the first six months, down from $11.1 billion in the first half of 2009.

Remittances had shown signs of a slight recovery earlier in the year, but instead the downward trend continued.

The bank reported Monday that remittances fell about 2 percent in June.

About 12 million Mexicans live in the United States.
