Riviera Nayarit's Half Marathon Route
Last May, AIMS measured the route to ensure it complies with the official required length. The engineers from this international organization assure this is one of the most beautiful routes they've ever certified.

It's official: the Touristic Half Marathon of Riviera Nayarit measures 21,970.5 meters (13.651 miles), and has therefore been awarded a certification by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), which makes it one of the best organized half marathons in this country.

The event organizers published the news this week: they already have the support of the Mexican Athletics Federation (FMA by its name in Spanish), and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), so they now have all the components these organizations recommend to be able to successfully organize a race.

The formula to organize this half marathon has been the following: bring together the experience from top organizers; choose an amazing place with first-class lodging and infrastructure, impeccable streets and exuberant beauty; get the endorsement from the FMA and the State's Athletics Association to guarantee the support of all pertaining authorities, and obtain the AIMS certification to give the event an international scope.

Riviera Nayarit stands out because of its beauty, its natural settings, the warmth of its people and the touristic services they offer, and its high-quality hotel infrastructure. Because of these reasons, it was easy for the organizers to settle on this destination, as it will be a key factor to the success of this event.

The destination even caught the attention of the AIMS representatives that measured the route, who assured that in the more than 150 destinations that they've covered, they hadn't had an experience like the one this route offers.

Deportes, the company specializing in sport and touristic events that is organizing this race, mentioned: "After they finished measuring and doing a seemingly endless amount of calculations, the experts' comment was that this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and pleasant routes they had ever been able to measure and certify."

Since the creation of the Riviera Nayarit brand three years ago, a priority for the industry has been to attract high quality tourism that poses a low environmental impact. This isn't only a marketing issue, but a strategy led by Governor Ney Gonzalez Sanchez to achieve an integral development of the community and to increase not only the raw economic indexes, but also the well being of the society as a whole - and high performance sports are a key niche to achieve this goal.

The strong impulse that Riviera Nayarit is receiving through events like the Touristic Half Marathon of Riviera Nayarit, which is promoted by the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is possible due to the joint work of Federal entities, and chiefly by the Tourism Secretary Gloria Guevara, who supports the promotion of events like the Half Marathon through the Mexican Council for the Promotion of Tourism (CPTM).
