Top 10 Activities for Kids in Vallarta

There are many kid-friendly activities in Puerto Vallarta that'll make your family vacation unforgettable!

So here you are in sunny Puerto Vallarta and all you want is to have a book in one hand and a Margarita in the other, but oops, the children are with you. There are many activities available to tire the rascals out, so that you can get some well deserved 'alone time' on your vacation.

Here are my top 10 favorite Puerto Vallarta activities for kids:

1. The Malecón: I rank our beloved boardwalk as a #1 priority a must to visit! At sunset you can enjoy the Papantla Flyers, a group of men are attached by rope to the top of a 50 foot pole. They leap and plunge head first in amazing form floating toward the earth and although this may scare the crap out of you, kids seem to love it... and its free! The Marigalante pirate ship sails by after sunset and has a fireworks show. There is no shortage of strolling vendors who sell toys, cotton candy, candied apples and much more and there are frequent outdoor performances at the arches across from the main plaza.

2. Fishing at Los Muertos Pier: Bring your rod and test your luck or just observe the local fisherman. This is fun and also free!

3. Los Muertos Beach: This beach reminds me of Waikiki because there is always someone to watch, but in Puerto Vallarta you can choose a restaurant, relax under a palapa and have a waiter cater to your family's needs all day. The food options are immense and your only problem will be to monitor your kid's purchases from the charming beach vendors who sell a multitude of treasures.

4. Conchas Chinas Beach: When the ocean is calm, Conchas Chinas is great for exploring the tidal pools. Bring a picnic and enjoy! Sundays are a busy day, so choose another and relish in the having the full reign of the beach.

5. Sayulita Beach: Surfing classes! Kids of all ages can ride the surf or boogie and there are teachers on hand. The main plaza at Sayulita is very charming. Pick a bench, enjoy a popsicle (Paleta) and enjoy the local kids who roam free and are always having a ball.

6. Peter Piper Pizza: If you can't keep your kids happy with tacos and quesadillas, give in and take them to Peter Piper Pizza located in the hotel zone. Pizza is delicious and they have video games and prizes.

7. Los Veranos Canopy Tour: Children over the age of 6 can zip through the jungle and experience flora and fauna at its finest. At the end of the lines, there is a river where kids can swim while you can enjoy lunch and a visit to the tequila bar. Click HERE for more information.

8. Puerto Vallarta Zoo: Meet face to face more than 450 mammals, birds, and reptiles inhabiting the zoo surrounded by tropical jungle scenery. Located on the south side of the Bay at Mismaloya. Click HERE to learn more.

9. Movie Theatres: If the heat is too overwhelming, Puerto Vallarta has numerous movie theatres and the films are usually current and in English or with English Subtitles.

10. Nature Walks: can be enjoyed throughout the Bay of Banderas and to pinpoint one key location is impossible as there are endless options. If you want to look for iguanas, lizards and try some bird watching, see VivaNatura.org for a reference guide.

The quality of life for children in Puerto Vallarta is outstanding and there is no shortage of quality private bilingual schools available in all neighborhoods.
