Vallarta Celebrates World Animal Day

September 16, 2010

On Sunday, October 3rd the Association Vida Animal Bahía de Banderas will gather at 6:30 pm at the arches of the Puerto Vallarta Malecón to celebrate World Animal Day.

World Animal Day originated in Florence in 1931 by initiative of animal protection organizations at a conference in Vienna. In 1980, Pope John Paul II declared St. Francis of Assisi the patron saint of animals and environmentalists, and October the 4th became officially the day to honor this great man of Italian origin, who felt that he shared much with these creatures whom he considered "Children of the Lord."

In 1992, animal rights organizations in England began a celebration that through the years has spread throughout the world, a celebration in which thousands gather at their churches to have their pets blessed by priests. On this occasion several Mexican cities will join this celebration to commemorate all the species with whom we share our planet and to whom mankind has caused so much suffering, mostly in recent times.

Vida Animal Bahía de Banderas (VABB) is a young organization that bases its efforts on the new generations seeking to educate and create awareness based educational programs. The formation of this partnership began by the initiative of a group of people interested in publicizing the global problem of animal mistreatment. This is an organization that aims to care for both domestic and wild animals. VABB focuses its efforts on creating greater community awareness through education, social events, celebrations, peaceful demonstrations, fundraising and by helping other animal rights organizations.

On this occasion, VABB will gather to give animals a voice and fight to prevent their abuse, a cause that has been ignored by many during these times of human selfishness. Several local organizations from Banderas Bay will be featured, among them: PEACE, Alianza Jaguar, SPCA, PV Animal, Paraiso Felino A.C., Pet Heaven, these are associations that over the years have fought for this cause.

This event has had the unconditional support of many citizens concerned about this issue. We count with the unconditional cooperation of audiovisual arts directors Sharon Toribio and Paty Green, the excellent photographer Roberto Aceves, as well as the sound music company from Guadalajara Nueve Cuartos.

VABB will also be supported by DJ Pelon, who will be present at the event, The Sky Lounge, La Isla, The British American School of Puerto Vallarta students (who will delight us with a small representation of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi,) Etnias Dance Group, The National Concierge Association´s Pacific Region, Idea Marketing, La Casa del Habano, CWA Pet Sitting Services, Imprenta Grafica De Vallarta and Bay Vallarta Magazine, Blake's Sports Bar and Grupo Acir, among others.

We invite all citizens of the Bay to attend this event, which is for the whole family, an event of worldwide importance. This, so that together we'll raise our voices on behalf of all animals. We will also light candles in memory of animals that have died at the hands of human injustice.
