Mexico's Rights Panel to Probe Honduran Diplomats' Reported Abduction

Mexico City - Mexico's National Commission for Human Rights will investigate last week's reported abduction of two Honduran diplomats, the agency said.
The two diplomats and a consular employee were abducted September 19 in Veracruz, a Gulf coast city in southeastern Mexico, the human rights panel said in a release Wednesday. The consul officials said they were robbed and physically and verbally abused, the rights agency said.
The officials said they were released after someone gave chase, but no further details were available.
The Honduran government has asked for an investigation.
The government of Veracruz denied this week that the men were abducted, saying they had merely been detained during a routine stop because they had been drinking alcohol at a party, CNNMexico.com reported Wednesday.
Mexico's National Commission for Human Rights is a government-funded autonomous agency.
