Earlier this week, municipal authorities released the calendar of activities for the Day of the Dead celebrations taking place in downtown Puerto Vallarta on November 1st and 2nd.

In charge of the activities program are: Municipal Art and Culture Director, Monica Venegas Sanchez; Municipal Tourism Director, Jose Luis Diaz Borioli; Municipal Market General Manager, Cesar Langarica Santana and Hotel Catedral owner, Lic. Carlos de Leon, who worked together to prepare surprises for locals and visitors throughout this event.

The main Día de Los Muertos festivities will be on November 2nd, beginning with a cultural walk, led by around 70 dancers and a traditional Brazilian Batucada group, that starts at the Hotel Rosita and continues along the Malecón until it reaches the Municipal Plaza, where the traditional exposition and tribute to the dead will take place.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to the popular fiesta on Agustin Rodriguez Street. The celebration will present famous folkloric group "Xiutla", Mariachi, Mexican songs, a Catrinas exhibition, fireworks, games and raffles for everybody who attend. Mexican food will be available at very accessible prices.

Eighteen artists (painters, sculptors, photographers and poets) from Puebla City will participate in a collective Day of the Dead exposition at Galería Corona, located at Corona #164 in downtown Puerto Vallarta, and directed by Ramiro Fernandez, a painter from Puebla.

This Día de Los Muertos exhibition is part of the opening week of Puerto Vallarta's annual Art Walk season, which began on October 27th and continues through May 25, 2011.

The painters participating in Galería Corona' special art exhibition are: José Lazcarro, Fernando Albisúa, Aristeo Fernández, Elías Alam, Fernando Castellanos, Bernardo Arcos, Amelia Domínguez, Ángeles Escalante, Ana Joaquina de la Concha, Mauricio Fernández, Blanca González, Héctor Ponce, José Ignacio Posada, Ranyan, Javier González, Elizabeth Castro Regla, Rocío Hill and Dolores Sordo.

"Puerto Vallarta, in comparison with Puebla, is a place with open spaces where artists can get exposure and move their art between galleries," said Ramiro Fernandez.
