World Animal Day - Pet Heaven Draws Large Crowd

On October 3rd, Pet Heaven supporters gathered in large numbers on Puerto Vallarta's Malecón to celebrate World Animal Day.
Pet Heaven supporters gathered in large numbers Sunday evening on Puerto Vallarta's Malecón to give support to their fellow animal rights 'amiga' Ana Sarmiento and her team from Vida Animal Bahía de Banderas, who produced the World Animal Day event at the Arches.

World Animal Day gives all animal rights activists the chance to raise their voices in support of HUMANE ONLY treatment of our furry friends. Pet Heaven supporters gathered at McDonald's and, clad in the organization's T-shirts and thier faces painted like cats, began their trek covering the length of the Malecón and eventually arriving at the Arches where the program began at 6:30 pm.

"We need to continue to spread the awareness that animals deserve humane treatment and this was the perfect opportunity," said Julie Bunker, Pet Heaven's administrator. "Pet Heaven, together with our friends at the SPCA, PEACE, PV Animal, Paraiso Felino just to name a few, are all working towards the same goal... to protect the rights of these innocent ones that can't speak up for themselves."

The event included a short performance from children at the British American School as well as a Pre-Hispanic dance performed by Etnias Dance Group.

"We know that just about everyone loves one kind of animal or another - and that said, we also know that just about everyone has seen or at least heard of animal abuse cases. This must stop. Pet Heaven is involved with a movement, with Lic. David at the helm (local attorney David Connell of Connell y Asociados in Marina Vallarta) to get laws instated in Nayarit to protect domestic animals... and the support for this as you might imagine is overwhelmingly positive!"

Also seen at the event: Luz Wong, President of the SPCA, Molly Fisher, President of PEACE, and Janina, co-founder of Paraiso Felino.

Pet Heaven is a Non-Profit shelter in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal to adopt them out to loving homes. All of our residents have been sterilized, vaccinated and are disease free. We accomplish this through our own efforts as well as collaboratively with other animal welfare organizations. Both monetary donations as well as donations of dry cat food are most welcome – and much appreciated.
