The Presidency reports that Mexican President Felipe Calderón received a call from US President Barack Obama Saturday from India, where he is on a working tour, congratulating him on the results of the operation carried out in Matamoros, Tamaulipas by members of the Mexican Navy and National Defense Secretariat.

The US president also asked President Calderón to send his condolences to the families of the three marines and the Mexican soldier as well as journalist Carlos Alberto Guajardo Romero, who lost their lives yesterday during various events in the state of Tamaulipas.

President Obama stressed his commitment to the Mexican government’s efforts in the fight against organized crime and confirmed his support for the security strategy implemented to dismantle the operating and financial networks of criminal groups.

In this respect, he said that the US government will continue boosting cooperation with the Mexican government to reduce the scope for transnational organized crime and achieve safer communities.

President Calderón thanked the US president for his call and underlined the spirit of joint responsibility that characterizes the two nations in the fight against transnational organized crime.
