At 8 am on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, Nayarit Governor Ney González officially opened traffic on the north-bound bridge over the Rio Ameca, which collapsed during heavy rains on August 31st.

González confirmed the official reopening of the bridge on his Facebook page, which also reports the presence of the Minister of Communications and Transportation, Juan Manuel Molinar; Federal Deputy, Rafael Zambrano Yerena; Peri Cuevas Garcia; local MP Ramon Guerrero and the mayors of Banderas Bay and Puerto Vallarta, Hector Paniagua and "Chava" Gonzalez, respectively, among others.

Original estimates suggested that the bridge would not be functional until March of 2011. Puerto Vallarta Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz attributes the quick resolution to the special attention that Jalisco Governor Gonzalez Marquez and the Secretary of SCT Juan Molinar Horascasitas gave the issue. The cost to repair the bridge was approximately one hundred million pesos.
