Secretary of the Interior Francisco Blake Mora
Mexico City – Secretary of the Interior Francisco Blake Mora will be asked to appear before Congress to explain several major flaws and inconsistencies of Mexican authorities regarding the kidnapping and abuses which 50 Central American undocumented migrants suffered in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas.

Heliodoro Díaz Escárraga, president of the Internal Affairs Committee and the Legislative Studies Committee, said that this incident proves that the internal immigration policies of the country are questionable. He also said that the incident limits the credibility of the federal government to act accordingly.

Díaz, who is from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), pointed out that although the incident will be assessed by a court, the most important thing is for lawmakers to understand the inefficiencies and omissions related to the case.

“These authorities have to prove whatever it is they were doing wrong to avoid further cases of this nature,” he said.”These violations, abuses, kidnappings and murders have to end, especially when they are aimed at an immigrant population coming from our neighboring countries.”

The official further stated that, unfortunately, Mexican authorities have failed to combat crime effectively. He said that lawmakers all over the country have been ineffective in the implementation of laws to combat crime against illegal aliens in Mexico.

“The authorities have clearly overlooked many solutions that we already have to curb criminality. It is necessary to find the culprits as soon as possible and specify which officials are responsible. However, it is more important to find those who were kidnapped and investigate the decisions officials in Oaxaca and Chiapas took to address the situation,” said Blake.
